Caisson – Transport and Storage Protection – Isleburn

Isleburn Transport and Storage ProtectionIsleburn is one of the UK’s largest and most respected manufacturers of equipment for the international energy industry.

Widely-regarded as a world-leader in the manufacture of bespoke equipment for subsea oil and gas projects, their equipment has to withstand the elements in some of the most remote areas in the world.

Due to weather and tidal conditions there is was a small window of opportunity in which the caisson had to be transported to its final location. Isleburn looked for a transport and storage protection solution, and consulted Tufcoat regarding the project.

Isleburn had no previous experience with shrink wrap and so an initial meeting opened with questions regarding our onsite shrink wrap installation service, the quality of the material and its’ resistance to UV rays.

Tufcoat were contracted to prepare the 120m long 44” OD caisson to be stored until the first quarter of the following year for protection against the elements.

The caisson required 10 rolls of 300µm 7 x 15m shrink wrap and took a 4 man team 2 days to complete with only minor repairs after winds in excess of 100mph ravaged Invergordon and the Scottish Highlands.
