Project – Environmental containment for construction
Purpose – Wrapped scaffolding encapsulation
Location – Manchester City Centre
Client – Recom Solutions
Product – Flame-retardant industrial shrink-wrap
Tufcoat recently completed a large-scale wrapped scaffolding encapsulation project in the heart of Manchester city centre, working in collaboration with Recom Solutions on a key construction and redevelopment site.
Located at the busy intersection of King Street and Deansgate, the site presented both logistical and technical challenges that required careful planning and expert delivery to ensure safety, maintain access and present a professional image throughout the duration of the works.
This high-traffic, high-visibility location demanded a tailored approach that balanced robust environmental containment with public safety, all while ensuring the branding needs of the client were met. With scaffolding installed across multiple elevations and junctions, our expert team delivered full shrink-wrap encapsulation using our premium white flame-retardant film, ensuring the structure was sealed against weather, dust and debris while enhancing site aesthetics in a prime city centre location.
Full-site coverage, multi-faced wrapped scaffolding
The site covered four key elevations, all requiring custom-measured wrapped scaffolding installations:
•King Street: 27.72m x 11m
•Ridgefield: 21.67m x 14.65m
•South King Street: 32.38m x 14.65m
•Deansgate: 21m x 11m
The shrink-wrap material used was our white, flame-retardant shrink-wrap, designed specifically for external wrapped scaffolding applications. Heat-welded to the scaffolding framework using gas heat guns, the wrap creates a drum-tight seal that is weatherproof, highly durable and resistant to tearing or flapping in wind; essential for tall structures in exposed urban locations.
Safety in an urban environment
Given the location in Manchester city centre, public safety was a core consideration throughout this project. The area experiences high levels of footfall daily, including shoppers, tourists and workers. Our team worked closely with the site and scaffolding teams to ensure that the wrapped scaffolding encapsulation was completed with minimal disruption to pedestrian routes and business access.
The shrink-wrap solution not only helped contain dust and debris during works, but also reduced the risk of materials falling from height which is a critical factor in protecting members of the public passing beneath the scaffolded areas. In addition, by encapsulating the site, we helped reduce visual impact and noise pollution, improving conditions for nearby residents and businesses.
Branded wrapped scaffolding for enhanced site presentation
In high-profile areas such as King Street and Deansgate, the visual impact of a construction site can influence public perception and stakeholder engagement. To meet the client’s branding objectives, we incorporated custom-printed sections onto the wrapped scaffolding.
These branded sections were produced from signed-off artwork supplied by Recom Solutions and printed onto durable vinyl. The result was a clean, professional appearance that promoted the project while maintaining continuity across the wrapped scaffolding.
