Shrink-Wrap for environmental control

Effective containment and environmental control are essential for any site project.

It doesn’t matter if it’s construction, refurbishment, renovation or industrial work; managing dust and debris, keeping noise levels down and maintaining site privacy are important considerations.

Tufcoat shrink-wrap provides a fully encapsulated barrier, preventing potential contaminants from escaping from the work site. This has been particularly beneficial for historic building restoration, where sandblasting is used to clean delicate façades. By enclosing scaffolding with heat-fused shrink-wrap, we can provide environmental control to help protect surrounding structures and the local community.

Preventing environmental contamination was a priority when we encapsulated Battersea Rail Bridge during essential refurbishment that included grit blasting to remove the old paintwork. By shrink-wrapping the scaffolding structure, we prevented chippings, paint and spray waste from escaping and polluting the River Thames.

“A bespoke environmental control solution is the only way to guarantee containment for many projects. This is where shrink-wrap’s versatility can be a real game-changer. It’s easily adapted to fit any structure from simple scaffolding and temporary enclosures to complete building encapsulation.”

Hazardous material containment

Hazardous materials like asbestos require strict containment to prevent exposure. When removing or encapsulating asbestos, environmental control is vital to ensure that fibres do not become airborne and pose a serious health risk. Once applied, our shrink-wrap solutions are easily heat-shrunk to form a drum-tight seal around any structure, guaranteeing complete containment for safe working conditions. Health, safety and compliance with regulations are vital on site.

Noise reduction

No matter how much planning goes into the work, construction and refurbishment projects can generate high-levels of noise which can be disruptive to nearby residents, businesses and sensitive environments like hospitals and schools. Shrink-wrap helps to dampen noise levels by acting as a physical sound barrier.

For example, contractors can use shrink-wrap to reduce noise from demolition and grinding activities during refurbishment works in urban areas. By encapsulating scaffolding and temporary work areas, shrink-wrap can help mitigate noise pollution and improve conditions for workers and local community.

Privacy and security

For some projects, physical containment might not be the primary concern.  Some projects require an added level of privacy, whether for security reasons, confidentiality, aesthetics or to keep the refurbishment discreet. Whatever the reason for shielding, shrink-wrap can effectively hide the work from public view.

This was the requirement for Z-Hotels during the refurbishment of two properties into luxury apartments and a restaurant in Covent Garden, London. Tufcoat’s black shrink-wrap with branding provided the ideal solution, concealing the scaffolding from view maintaining the site aesthetics in a prestigious location whilst protecting the site from the elements.

A proven solution for containment and environmental control

When dust and debris containment, noise reduction or privacy are a priority, our shrink-wrap has repeatedly proven its value. It’s the go-to solution for ensuring projects run smoothly, safely and with minimal disruption to the local environment.
