A once in a lifetime project weatherproofing the clock faces of Elizabeth Tower for restoration
In 2017, work started on the most extensive and complicated conservation project in Elizabeth Tower’s history. Over a 6-month period, the Grade 1 listed building which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, had one of the most complex scaffolds in British history erected. As part of this, Tufcoat were brought in to create a shrink-wrapped, weatherproof controlled working environment around the clock faces so that the delicate restoration could begin.
“The last time there was scaffolding on the Tower was back in the 1980s making this a once in a lifetime project for the Tufcoat team to work on. For our installers it was a privilege to work in such an iconic, special place alongside specialist craftspeople from around the UK, all coming together to save one of the World’s most recognisable buildings.”
